And We have sent you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): not but as a mercy for the 'Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists).

[Qur’an chapter 21:verse 107]

Allah chose Muhammad (peace be upon him) to be the final prophet and messenger who would convey the message of Islamic monotheism and the message would apply to all nations, for generations to come.

Islam is not just a religion for 7th century Arabs, rather if you look today at the diversity of Islam’s followers, you will recognise that only a small percentage are Arab, for Islam has and is still spreading around the world rapidly, which substantiates the fact that Islam is the true religion for all.

Briefly taking a glimpse at the life of the most illustrious human being of all time, Muhammad was born in 570 CE (Christian Era), in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. As a young child of noble lineage, Muhammad (peace be upon him) faced much. For instance, many of his loved ones passed away, including his father before his birth, his mother when he was approximately six years of age and then his grandfather when he was about eight years old. His uncle was to raise him thereafter.

Despite life’s challenges, Muhammad grew up to be a courageous young man, with a gentle character, the best morals and graceful manners. He was a modest, chaste, intelligent, mild-tempered, patient, honest, trustworthy, sincere individual who was known to be righteous and morally upright. He married a noble and respectable woman named Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her)and fathered her children. Muhammad peace be upon him disagreed with the vices prevalent in Arabia during this period and crucially, he denounced idolatry and polytheism.

At the age of 40, when Muhammad was meditating in a cave in mount Hira, Allah sent the angel Gabriel (Jibrael, peace be upon him) to Muhammad with the first revelation of the Qur’an. Gradually, his mission of prophethood progressed. For the next 23 years of his life, as the Qur'an was revealed in stages, the messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) successfully conveyed and proclaimed the true message of Islam, the message of Islamic monotheism- to worship and submit to Allah alone. Through Muhammad's sincere endeavour, Islam, peace, justice, mercy and compassion prevailed throughout the region and beyond.

This belief that Muhammad peace be upon him is the final messenger and servant of Allah is necessitated by the second part of the shahaadah/Islamic testimony of faith, (wa ashadu anna muhammadan abduhu wa rasooluh: and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger .) Muslims do not worship Muhammad (peace be upon him). We worship the One Whom Muhammad (peace be upon him) worshipped, we worship Allah alone! We endeavour to emulate the perfect example of Muhammad peace be upon him, who was a sincere worshipper of Allah.

Muhammad peace be upon him said 'Indeed I was only sent to perfect the morals of men.'
