If you don’t believe in a god, take a moment to ponder over your existence and over the existence of beings around you, could such a remarkably complex system just come out of nowhere without a reason? How did this all come about? What’s the point of life? Such weighty questions beg for answers and crucially, we must acknowledge that this universe is not everlasting- it is purpose built and there is a purpose for our existence.

Therefore, this implies that there must have been an Eternal Creator Who originated this universe, its contents and all creation. It is thus understood that this Supreme Creator must be uncreated, Ever-living and All-Knowing. Furthermore, The Creator must be separate from and Unique and independent from His creation. (Read on for the proof!)

This Supreme Creator, is called ‘Allah’ (الله).
Allah is the Arabic for The One True God/deity to be worshipped alone, it is special since it is unique and remarkable  gramatically for it is definite in form and does not adopt gender or plurality, unlike the English word god.

What differentiates Islam from other world religions such as Christianity and Judaism, is the fact the concept of Tawheed (Islamic monotheism) is emphatically maintained in Islam. That is, we believe that Allah does not have any partner or son or children and that idols cannot be worshipped along with Him.  On the other hand, other religions promote polytheistic and idolatrous beliefs and practises which contradict the principles of monotheism. Moreover, Allah is not just a god for Muslims, but rather, He is the Lord of all creation, the Supreme Creator.

Furthermore, Muslims beseech and beg  Allah alone directly in our prayers and supplications, there are no intermediaries or idols involved. When we sincerely seek forgiveness, mercy and guidance, we ask only Allah. (see the video link on the left "sura Al-Fatiha of The Qur'an")

So where do we get the proof for the existence of Allah, His Oneness and His right to be worshipped alone? This fact is substantiated by the two authentic original sources of Islam, the Qur’an and the Sunnah (teachings and practices of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him).

Listen to this chapter 112 of the Qur’an...:

The English interpretation of the Arabic meaning:
‘Say (O Muhammad peace be upon him): "He is Allah, (the) One.
"Allah-us-Samad [Allah the Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, (He neither eats nor drinks)].
"He begets not, nor was He begotten.
"And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him."" [QURAN 112;1-4]

Take a look at some more evidence; here is the greatest ayah of the Qur’an, called ayat-ul-kursi:

’Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyum (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists). Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him.
To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills.
His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. ‘ [Qur’an chapter 2:verse 255- english interpretation]

Here follows some beautiful verses from the Qur’an (English interpretation) (we insist you check out the Qur’an tab under the What's Islam menu, guaranteed you will never hear and read a book as fulfilling as the Qur’an!):

“Your Ilah (God) is only Allah, (the One) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). He has full knowledge of all things. [Qur’an 20:98]”

‘He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and Who has begotten no son (children or offspring) and for Whom there is no partner in the dominion. He has created everything, and has measured it exactly according to its due measurements.’ (Qur’an, chapter 25: verse2)

‘He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than Him). And He is the All-Knower of every thing.’ [Qur’an chapter 57: verse 3]

and WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF LIFE?!

‘And I (Allah) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone).’ [Qur’aan 51:56]

This is the purpose of life, to worship and submit to none but Allah alone! As Muslims, we completely and sincerely submit and surrender ourselves to Allah and this is ultimate servitude to the One Who exclusively deserves our devotion. We cannot see Allah in this wordly life because Allah has willed this not to happen. Additionally, our faculties and abilities are limited and Allah is the Most High, All-Knowing and All-Wise. Only the fortunate who enter paradise will have the honour of gazing upon their Lord, Allah, in the afterlife.

Incidentally, Allah ordered us to worship Him alone, not because He needs it, but because we need Him!!! Remember, Allah is self-sufficient. When we were not in existence, Allah was and still is the Ever-living and All-powerful, whether we worship Him or not, this does not detract from Him any might or power whatsoever.

“O mankind! it is you who stand in need of Allah. But Allah is Rich (Free of all needs), Worthy of all praise”
[Qur’an, chapter 35: verse 15 – interpretation of the meaning]

Who is Allah?

'Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyum (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists).' [Qur'an 3:2]

We believe that Allah is the Creator of all and is uncreated. Allah has no partners, children or associates. Allah is not a man or a spirit and Allah is not everything or everywhere. Read for more ----->
